Tomáš Javůrek will present a project by Serbian artist and educator Vladan Joler, currently on display at ScreenSaverGallery. Entitled “New Extractivism”, it is an assemblage of allegories, maps and information probes into the hidden logic of power distribution within the social reality of the digital age.
The central figure in the allegories of “New Extractivism” is the user. This user, like the mythological creature Ouroboros, eats his own tail in a cycle of being the consumer of products made from his own resources. He is purposely lulled into a “free fall” so that he either does not recognize or is indifferent to the fact that he is contributing to his own depletion and exploitation.

Tomáš Javůrek is an artist, programmer, academic and curator whose work revolves around digital media, big data, artificial intelligence and online environments. In 2023, he received his PhD from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology, where he was also the lead contributor to an artistic research project on big data and visual art (datatata.info). Tomáš currently works as a lecturer at the photography studio of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Brno University of Technology. He has also taught at the Department of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava and is an independent book publisher.
Since 2010 Tomáš has been collaborating with Barbora Trnková under the nickname ‘&’ and on the metazoa.org server. Their collaborative work focuses mainly on digital media and online art. They are the founders and curators of ScreenSaverGallery, a unique experimental exhibition space for digital art (screensaver.gallery).
