Soumya Sankar Bose is a key contemporary artist in the entire Bengal region focused on human rights issues. He reconstructs archival materials and oral history into photography, films, alternative archives, and artist books. Enmeshing fiction and reality, Bose’s work opens up daring realms of memory, desire, vulnerability and identity. At the festival we will showcase his work including VR presentation.

Soumaya Sankar Bose (born 1990) is an Indian artist, photographer and videographer based in Kolkata. He reconstructs archive material and oral history into photography, films, alternative archives, and art books. Combining long-term research and engagement with local communities including his own family history, Bose’s hybrid practice accentuates certain subaltern experience of marginalized yet resilient people in post-partition Bengal. Enmeshing fiction and reality, Bose’s work boldly addresses the realms of memory, desire, vulnerability and identity. He has received many international awards for his photographic, artistic, and publishing activities, and his art was presented at solo exhibitions across India, America, and Europe.
