FOR A BETTER FUTURE
“Do you want to know your future? Do you want guaranteed success? Do you want to live better than most? You can! Just come to the embankment on Friday, 16 September evening, where artist Karima Al-Mukhtar will read your palm. In addition, she will enhance your future with just a slight skin alteration. And that’s not all! Every participant will receive a commemorative Polaroid photo with the author’s signature free of charge.”
For Re-connect Art, Karima Al-Mukhtar will conduct participative performances that follow up on her Inner Feelings cycle, using the theme of fortune telling and positive stimulation of the lifelines using a painless yet physically contact artistic technique.
Karima Al-Mukhtarová (*1989) is a young multimedia artist and a graduate of Prague’s Academy of Fine Arts (2018). In her art, she combines working with physical material such as glass, ceramics and fabric with body art and performance. She won the Essel Art Award CEE for the Czech Republic (2013). This year, she took a prestigious artist-in-residence programme at Art Omi in New York City. Her vital topics are self-awareness processes and identity issues. She often thematises her own life experience based on her Iraqi-Slovak origins. She works with traditions, rediscovering original craft techniques in embroidery, tapestry and ceramics and imbuing them with a topical and subjectively intimate content at once. The corporeal essence of her work, including skin embroidery, can be perceived as a reaction to the depersonalisation and dematerialisation of relationships typical of social networks, as well as to the general tendency towards virtualising communication, work, education and other areas of life.
